SOPA Newsletter # 06 - April 12, 2007: SOPA label night + great review + Shakespeare + gigs!
::::::::::::::: SOUND OF PERPETUAL ASTONISHMENT :::::::::::::::
Welcome to the sixth SOPA Newsletter.
Lots of exciting news this time around.
Danish text here: http://www.geiger.dk/anmeldelser/anmeldelse.php?id=2537
It will all go down in the city of cities: Berlin. And that's soon...
on May 4th at the venue Ausland! So far the Berlin-resident Italian artist
9 is playing alongside Danish balkanpunk band KURVE (yeah, SOPA is crossing
some fingers that at some point a release by these fantastic folks will
find its way to the world through this label). CAPT. DAYDREAM will spin
some nice records - from the deep roots of blues to sparkling electronic
music and alternative hip-hop.
KURVE is also playing in Berlin the day before the SOPA DELICIOSA night. Yep, that's at the venue Schokoladen on May 3rd. And yes, you gotta hear them twice, so go! Visit them at http://www.kurvekanal.dk and check them out.
9 a.k.a. Marco Brosolo is - as of writing this newsletter - performing his own music live in France as part of a play there. Shakespeare no less! And "Richard III" to be precise. It all goes down at L'Aire Libre Theater in Rennes on April 11+12+13.
Read more about it here: http://www.9-9.it/News.htm
Also: A lot of gigs and dj sets coming up in April and May. Zelda Panda
of MARZIPAN MARZIPAN has begun doing weekly dj sets every Sunday at Intersoup
again. And she's also got some gigs with her coverband Kadillac Lobster
On a less joyful note: it was with some sadness, but with lots of respect and gratitude for a life's work, that SOPA learned that American novelist Kurt Vonnegut passed away this week at the age of 84. Most likely unknown to him that he inspired the name of this label, SOPA, with a line from his latest book "A Man Without A Country":
"I don't know about you, but I practice a disorganized religion. I belong to an unholy disorder. We call ourselves 'Our Lady of Perpetual Astonishment'."
So farewell... and God Bless You, Mr. Vonnegut!
And to everyone out there not yet familiar with this great writer... pick up "Slaughterhouse-Five" or one of his many other great works. ;-)
"If God were alive today, he would have to be an atheist."
- Kurt Vonnegut
Take care, folks!
Riding the wave of astonishment,
